Wet Weather and Beach Discoveries

After three failed attempts this winter due to some truly terrible weather, we were determined to give City to Sea another try today.

We started the morning with a heavy downpour followed by a light sprinkle. We decided this was our opportunity to venture out. Our thinking was simple: worst case scenario, we could catch the light rail and return to preschool.

With our wet weather gear on, we headed out and as we made our way towards the coast, the sun began to shine. We were so grateful that we decided to give it a go.

What a day it turned out to be.

Whales, dolphins and so much activity at the beach. Surfers braving the cold weather while we watched from the shoreline made for a truly magical experience.

We talked about what we could see, hear and smell, noticing the sounds of the waves, the fresh coastal air and everything happening around us. We then spent time admiring the changing cloud formations as the children began drawing pictures of their experiences at the beach.

We didn’t venture down onto the sand today, our onesies made this a little tricky, but from the shoreline, there was still so much to notice, wonder about and explore.

Sometimes the best adventures begin with a little uncertainty and a willingness to give it a go.
