Last Adventure for 2025

Wednesday 10th December 2025

This morning began with an overcast sky, and we found ourselves wondering whether we’d even make it to the beach. After a quick discussion, we decided to take the risk, and we’re so glad we did! Although it was windy, it became the perfect opportunity for the children to experience the beach in very different weather conditions.

As we arrived, the wind was so strong that our hats wouldn’t stay on, and we watched as the lifeguards moved the flags to adjust to the changing conditions. During morning tea, we sat together and observed how the ocean looked today. The tide was out, yet the waves were big, rough, and rolling in. The beach was much quieter than usual, with fewer people around.

With the tide out, the canoe pool offered the ideal spot for us to explore the wet sand. This was perfect for making sandcastles, and that’s exactly what we did for most of the time we were on the beach. The children worked in small teams to dig, build, and create. They even decided to form a wall of sand near where we placed our shoes, marking out our safe play area. As they dug deeper, they noticed a change in the colour and texture of the sand, dark, sloppy, and very different to the dry sand on top. The children also discovered that today’s wet sand conditions were the perfect place for creativity and drawing in the sand.

Despite the wild weather, or perhaps because of it, today’s visit gave the children a unique and memorable perspective of the beach environment.
