What If Bees Disappeared?

23rd February 2026

Our interest in bees is continuing to grow, and this week it was sparked even further by the story “What If Bees Disappeared?”

Billie and Bobbi listened carefully and were quick to ignite a thoughtful conversation.

“Bees are important because they make honey,” Bobbi shared.
“Because the flowers wouldn’t be there,” Billie added.

From there, the discussion began to deepen. With Tash posing curious questions, the children started unpacking why bees are so important to our world. Together, we explored the idea that if bees weren’t here, some of our food might disappear too. This led us into big conversations about ecosystems, pollination and how living things depend on one another.

To extend our learning, we printed images of bees, beehives and bee anatomy to investigate more closely. The children examined the parts of a bee, discussed how they collect nectar and talked about their role in helping plants grow.

“Bee’s sting,” Isaac explained, before thoughtfully adding that wasps sting much worse!

As our inquiry evolved, Jagger asked if we could also learn about spiders, and just like that, our mini beast investigation expanded even further.

What began with one story has blossomed into a rich exploration of pollinators, ecosystems and the interconnectedness of our natural world. We can’t wait to see where our curiosity leads us next.
