Today we were delighted to welcome children's author Aleesah, who shared her beautiful book Blue Dragon of the Sea with us. Through her storytelling, Aleesah invited the children into the fascinating underwater world, sharing her research, knowledge and discoveries about the incredible creatures that inhabit our oceans.
It was wonderful to see the children so enthusiastically contribute their own knowledge and understanding of sea animals. They shared what they already knew, asked questions and made connections between the creatures in the story and their own experiences and discoveries. Our children certainly had plenty of knowledge to bring to the conversation!
We then continued our ocean journey with Emerald: The Green Turtle's Tale, exploring the life of sea turtles and reflecting on the incredible journey of hatching and making their way into the ocean.
This experience also brought us back to our visit to the museum earlier in the year, where we explored coastal life and discovered more about marine animals and their habitats. It was lovely to see the children drawing on these earlier experiences, recalling information and bringing their existing knowledge into a new learning opportunity.
We value these opportunities to connect literature, research, children's voices and lived experiences. Each new encounter builds upon the last, allowing children's curiosity and understanding to grow.
A beautiful morning of storytelling, shared knowledge and deepening our connection with the wonderful marine life that surrounds us here on Awabakal Country.
