Sewing is an art…..

As our Kindness Tree project continues to evolve, the children have been involved in creating a new curtain for our art studio that will become the foundation of our tree. Rather than simply making the finished piece for the children, we invited them into the process, sharing the practical skills and decisions involved in transforming fabric into something meaningful for our space.

Working alongside an educator who enjoys sewing, the children explored how fabric can be measured, cut, folded and joined. With support, they helped to cut the material, create the hem and have a go at sewing, learning how tools and materials can be used with care and purpose. There was a wonderful sense of concentration and collaboration as the children watched, asked questions, shared ideas and contributed their own hands to the making process.

Through this experience, the children were not only developing practical skills but also seeing their ideas become part of the environment around them. The curtain will become the trunk of our Kindness Tree, connecting the children’s creativity, our community contributions and the ongoing story of kindness that continues to grow within our preschool.
