A Visit to Multiverse Brain at Newcastle Art Gallery Pt.1

Today we ventured from preschool to Newcastle Art Gallery for a very special adventure exploring the Multiverse Brain exhibition and discovering the incredible work of Torres Strait Islander artist Brian Robinson.

The children were fascinated by the way traditional Torres Strait Islander stories, imagery and culture were woven together with elements of pop culture, fantasy and contemporary art. There was so much to notice, wonder about and talk about as we moved through the exhibition.

We even created a game of a Spoto as we adventured around and went searching for details and objects within the artworks as we explored the gallery.

One of the highlights was entering the projection room, where stories unfolded around us and artworks floated across our bodies. We became part of the artwork itself, watching, listening and experiencing the stories in a completely different way.

A big thank you to Kate, who guided our tour and helped us to look more closely, ask questions and understand the artworks and their cultural connections. Her knowledge gave the children a rich opportunity to engage with art and culture within our own community.

We love that learning doesn't always happen inside our preschool walls. Today we explored, listened, wondered, discovered and connected with art, culture and our community.
